Makeup magic by Edwin Cast

Edwin Cast learned the way of the brush and color while taking up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, where he honed his skills in drawing, painting and watercolor. After mastering the strokes of the masters, he found himself creating portrait and figures until he got drawn to and apply it on a living canvass, the human face and a different kind of palette, which are cosmetics. From here, Edwin found himself dabbling in real visage and applied tones and hues to his friends, up to the time one satisfied customer got him to take the job of creating the make-up of magazine cover models for Fusion Magazine, Yes Magazine and Image. From still pictures, Edwin learned to master the dimensions make-up in accordance to lighting, mood and how it looks on the TV screen. Soon, he dabbled for TV Commercials like Globelines and Enervon , to name a few. Corporate shoots for Nestle, Sanofi-Adventis and del Monte followed as his career turned on an upward swing. His commitment to his art took him a step further when he was credited for the make-up of the special effects movie, “Manananggal in Manila” starring Alma Concepcion. Among the personalities who availed her services are Iya Villania (other models and artistas) Self-taught, yet brimming with ideas backed with a solid education and a wide experience, Edwin infused his own style in collaboration with directions and fashion stylists. With such achievement, most make-up artist would rather choose to rest on their laurels and dip on the cash, but Edwin spent more time in learning and perfecting his craft. He went under the tutelage of Lowell Buenaventura whom he considers as his greatest mentor and proceeded to do weddings, debuts and other special event. With the list of satisfied brides and debutantes getting longer, Edwin proceeded on his own and continues to cast color and shades of his subjects, who became his regular clients with a few he kept as friends. Edwin applies a simple yet elegant look that intimately registers with photo shoots, video coverages and most importantly, the event itself.
